A method is described for the determination of Mo in plant tissue based on the catalytic action of Mo on the KI-H2O2 reaction. An autoanalyzer with a modified de-bubbling system and a long path length (50 mm) flow cell is used. Significant improvements in sensitivity have been made over previous methods and the procedure is sensitive enough to determine <0.1 ppm of Mo in plant material, using a 0.5 g plant sample. The method has been applied for determination of the element in tobacco (Nico-tiana tabacum L.), soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill), and orchard leaf standard samples after dry ashing. Interferences from high concentrations of salts (>5%) can be overcome by addition of appropriate amounts of chloride salts to the standard solutions. |
