Corn (Zea mays L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.) plants were grown in a controlled environmental growth chamber in 11 medium to fine-textured soils with 0 and 5 ppm Zn added. After 4 weeks plants were harvested and Zn concentration and total Zn uptake were measured. Each soil was extracted with three different solutions: (i) 0.05 N HCl plus 0.025N H2SO4, (ii) 0.1N HCl, and (iii) 0.005M DTPA-TEA at pH 7.3. Correlations between Zn extracted and uptake by corn were: r = .80, .80, and .75 respectively for the three extractants. The r values for uptake by sorghum were .47, .46, and .44, respectively.
