This article examines the relationship between alcohol consumption, nonverbal behaviors, and performance in a cooperative game. Forty-two male teams played a version of the $100,000 Pyramid game. One teammate was randomly assigned to drinking condition (BAC = .08 g/dl or sober) and the other was sober. The nonverbal behaviors of the participant assigned to drinking condition were coded in the games in which he produced clues for his partner to guess the correct category. Expressiveness, rate, tempo, volume, frustration, and anxiety were coded. Success was measured by counting the number of categories completed per game. Results indicated that intoxicated participants were both more expressive and anxious than were sober participants. With few exceptions, nonverbal behaviors did not influence team success.
