Contents: Classical structural reliability methods model the ambiguity type of uncertainty only. One of the objectives of this paper is to develop a method for structural reliability assessment based on a generalized treatment of uncertainty. The proposed fuzzy-based structural reliability assessment method results in the probabilities of failure that satisfied the conditions of stability, convergence, consistency and limiting behavior. Since the developed fuzzy failure model is based on a subjective index, different damage spectra can be obtained by different experts. Therefore, the uncertainty measures based on the theory of evidence were applied for aggregating the expert opinions. In addition, the uncertainty measures can be used for structural response classification of damage spectra which might be needed in engineering decision making, e.g., assessing and performing repair work, using failure level as an optimization criterion, and improving structural codes.
