This paper presents the experimentation conducted in knowledge elicitation, with special reference to bridge design, as part of a much greater research effort in the computational modelling of conceptual design using artificial intelligence techniques. The extent of the knowledge elicitation encompasses the entire process of extracting, characterizing and crafting design knowledge into an exploitable form. The merits and shortcomings of the methods used in the experimentation are compared and contrasted; the problems involved in acquiring knowledge in a multiple expert environment are discussed. |
