Paginering: Jaargang 15 (1994) nr. 4 pagina's 497-514
Jaar: 1994
Inhoud: Few research is available as to teachers' nonclassroom behaviours, and the extent to which they mediate broader sociopolitical change, thus affecting teachers' role patterns, their classroom practices, teacher's training objectives and the distribution of social power. In this respect, the study looks into the particular case of Palestinian Arab teachers and the evolution of their role within the broader web of sociopolitical processes affecting the Middle East and the Arab World since the second half of the 19th Century. The paper further discusses the relation between gender and taught and the extent to which it affected the stratification of the teaching profession in the Palestinian society. The concluding discussion reflects on the bearing of the major depicted trends for sociological theory and teachers' training.
