Seasonal changes on intestinal ATPases activities of domesticated rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri), reared under natural conditions, were studied during 1988. (Na+/K+)-ATPase activity shows peak activity in all intestinal regions, between May and July. Ca2+, Mg2+ and HCO3-ATPases activities show significant variations, none present a seasonal pattern. (Na+/K+)-ATPase is positively correlated to both temperature and photoperiod, a negative correlation exists between HCO3-ATPase activity and temperature in all regions. The data demonstrates that of the enzymes which could be involved in ionosmotic regulation, only (Na+/K+)-ATPase shows preadaptative seasonal changes.
