The generic diagnosis of the male imago of a new genus of the subfamily Prodiamesinae (Chironomidae), Compteromesa is given. The genus is characterized by hairy wing membrane, dorsal elongation of eyes, the placement of cross vein MCu more proximad to RM than the length of MCu, and the cubital fork distinctly distad to RM. The genus appears intermediate between Odontomesa Pag. and Monodiamesa Kieff. The male imago of the single included species, C. oconeensis n. sp., is described. |
