Inhoud: In this paper the relationship between the farm size and efficiency (economic and allocative efficiency) has been estimated by applying the random coefficient method in the production function where the working definition of efficiency is derived from the profit maximizing behaviour of the farmer. In contrast to earlier studies, piecewise regression has been used instead of single regression to find the relationship. It has been found that a farm size between 7 and 12 acres is the most efficient (overall efficiency) in the contest of Bangladesh agriculture. This has an important policy implication in connection with the ceiling of land ownership in Bangladesh. Further, the smaller farms are seen to be more efficient than larger in allocating labour, but this is not true ofr BC input. Her also they deserve special attention in the formulation of government agricultural policy.
