In a recent article, Self and Lewis (2) described a production-inventory problem involving liquid items and constraints on storage. The essential properties which made up their algorithm are now stated explicitly and proven. A distinction is drawn between the three-tank and N-tank cases for the two-product problem, and it is shown that the Self-Lewis algorithm is not optimal for N<3. |
