A method of computation by iteration techniques is used to determine the temperature at the tip of a single point tool during a cutting operation; temperature measurements are made by a thermocouple located at an accessible point on the tool. Exceptionally close agreement with experimentally measured temperatures is obtained. A computer program is developed to facilitate the computation of the temperature distribution of this three-dimensional body in point-contact with a heat source. |
