In recent years the group technology approach to the organization of production has been receiving increasing attention in relation to the eventual automation of discrete parts manufacturing. In this paper we describe a procedure for estimating some of the reductions in component manufacturing cost associated with converting an existing traditional discrete parts production facility to one organized along group technology principles. An example is provided to illustrate the use of these cost estimation procedures. |
